Artist of the Week - 2007-09-13 - Tekin Kesen |
Tekin Kesen read the full interview here With the ending of summer and Ibiza closing its gates, we thought to present you this week an artist that will ease your soul on these short and getting-colder days of September. Tekin Kesin, ladies and gentlemen, for your appreciation, an artist that produces electronic music trusting nothing but his voice.
Interview: FOEM/Adinaaa: Hey, Tekin, glad to have you here today. Browsing the www I see that lately you’ve made quite a name out of yourself on the netlabel scene and speaking of names, how come while other artists try to find a catchy stage name for themselves, you went ahead using your real name? Tekin: The best would be to ask the other artists ;) – I am using my name, because it is my name?! FOEM/Adinaaa: Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I’ll have to make a mental note to ask the next artist I interview. Hehe. Tell me a little about your history in making music. How did you start producing, what reasons did you have, what satisfaction do you get from it? Tekin: I started to write songs from the age of 11. At first I did it for myself, like a therapy. I always felt like I am a nobody in this big dark world, but when I wrote a song I felt special - closer to myself. Actually I am making music to understand myself. And I think there are a lot of people who feel the same like I do. The reason why I am sharing my pain with the listeners is just to let them know that they are not alone in this fucking dark world ;) FOEM/Adinaaa: I have read in your latest EP press release that you labeled yourself as ‘vocaltronic’. How did you get to that? Tekin: When I was 17, I recorded my first vocal-only song - “The Living”. I liked it so much that I decided to try some more of this style. My friends asked me years later how I would label my sound. I said “vocaltronic”, because it is electronic music made only with vocals. FOEM/Adinaaa: You’ve been preparing your album for some time now. When do you think it will come out and what’s holding you back? Tekin: The album will be released in spring 2008. I already finished the album “Stereo Junkie”, but I decided not to release it because it doesn’t feel like Tekin. So I did a short break and started with new ideas and a lot of passion. The coming album will be something for your soul. I want to take the listeners to a journey of love, pain and hope. I want them to take a little time for themselves. I want them to feel understood. FOEM/Adinaaa: I read on the forum that even though you had about 40 tracks available, you still didn’t release the album because you didn’t feel ready. If I may ask, how many tracks have you recorded so far? Tekin: A lot…. ;) I don’t count them anymore. But if I were to guess… 60? FOEM/Adinaaa: You’ve recently joined this project Samplefreunde/Samplefriends. What’s the story behind it? Tekin: To be a "Samplefreund" means being a friend of Sampletechnology. Samplefreunde was founded in 2006 by Christian Kruse aka Yoursck. The idea is a simple one: using organic samples of each other to produce more and more high quality and diversified songs based upon the same sounds. New members are welcome – already on board are: Dr. Nojoke, Florian Filsinger, Massju, Tekin Kesen and Tomas Haas. You can get the first release now: Yoursck vers. Tekin Kesin E.P. "In Between / Withered Heart". And also the first sample package by Yoursck "field recordings part one" FOEM/Adinaaa: It’s quite an interesting project and I’ve listened to the EP - sounds great. What about music that is not your own? What’s your favorite dj out there? Do you practice clubbing? Tekin: I love clubbing with my friends and my favorite dj is Stephan Bodzin. FOEM/Adinaaa: From what you’ve told me, you are a very creative guy that writes poems, takes photos and makes music. Do you think any time soon you’ll be creating your next music video? Tekin: Maybe? But for the coming single “For My Lost Soul”, which is a collaboration with Yoursck , Stafeev Vitaliy from Russia produced the video. And I love it so much. Can’t wait to let you guys see this great video. FOEM/Adinaaa: I’ve seen some work of his and he certainly has an unique style. Speaking of future plans, you’ll be singing with a famous artist from your native country soon. If given the chance, with what other famous artist would you be willing to sing? Robbie Williams? Madonna? Nicole from Pussycat Dolls? Funny one, hehe. Tekin: Yes, I will record a duet with Cem Adrian. His music is going very deep and his lyrics are so honest. I just adore his voice and style. But I will also record a song with Gürkan Aslan and he is composing songs which can’t be from this world. When I close my eyes and listen to a song of his, I feel so close to the Universe. Unbelievable feeling. Now to your question… I prefer Madonna, but honestly I hope for a duet with Feist and Kanye West ;) FOEM/Adinaaa: My friends introduced me to Feists’ music. She has some pretty cool tracks. Enough about music. Now tell me, Tekin, is this your first interview? Tekin: Yes… ;) FOEM/Adinaaa: If you were me, what thing would you be dying to ask yourself? Tekin: Are you tired? FOEM/Adinaaa: Your choice. Hehe. Here’s a question I like to ask every person I interview: what’s one thing you’re a fan of that people might not expect? Tekin: I am a fan of Johann Sebastian Bach. I love classical music. I know I am boring ;) FOEM/Adinaaa: You’re not boring, you’re conservative. Hehe. Well, Tekin, best of luck in your musical career from now on and a message for your fans: stay tuned you guys on Tekin’s myspace profile for the upcoming single with video - “For My Lost Soul”. |
