Interview

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Once upon a time there were two nations, Romanians and Turkish. Everyone of them with great warriors, some of them fighting for their country and the others trying to conquer the world. The time has passed, the battles were gone, and the history was written. But I will continue the writings, interviewing one of the Han warriors’ successors.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Hello guys and Hello Ümit! Before starting the questions attack I must advice the readers to play your tracks first so they can integrate well in this "battle" spirit. And now, that everything is ok, let’s explain them why have you choose this Artist name. What does it mean?

Uemit Han: It’s come from Turkey, Ümit is my real first name and Han is the newturkish meaning of "Khan",  an old title from Turk&Mongol
Folks  i.e. Cengiz Khan.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: You are a multinational guy, Turkish and German, so now I'm curious about your musical roots. What do you like to listen?

Uemit Han: It’s difficult, a good track is a good track whatever the music is, I love music like NeoTrance,Techhouse,Minimal but Downbeats like Portisheads, Bjork, Massive Attack or Specials like Jean Michel Jarre and  New Age Artist "Merdem Dede" from Istanbul, I’d listen in the 90ies Trance like "resistance d", "binary finary" or "age of love" at first and in the end of the 90's I’d hear Techno/Electro music and I grow up in the 80ies with "Madonna”, “Michael Jackson" and "Falco".

FOEM/Christ Saddler: That’s a large perspective in the music field. I myself love to listen almost any music genre, but I know a lot of people so restrictive regarding music. Larger is better... the view, I mean :-) But tell me, how did you come to producing?

Uemit Han:
I began in 1994 with Djing Inspired by the Techno wave in Germany and after a few years later I was interested in remixing and bought an "akai remix16", finally, in 2000, Producing.....I love to create sounds and screw on Potis, it's not only music it’s a science.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Has there ever been a time in your life when making tracks just did not work? Maybe because you were stressed or so? What did you do to change it? Or did you just wait for a better time?

Uemit Han: I take my Mountainbike & drive in the wood, listen the nature.....Mountainbiking in the nature frees my mind, usually I drive 4-5 times in the week for a few hours. Mountainbike, a good Inspiration and energy.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Hehe, this sounds as an advertising headline. Tell me Han, you said you were a DJ in the first time, now my question is, do you also make LivePA´s? If yes, which equipment do you use ?

Uemit Han: I have made live Acts from 2002-2005 with my friend Andreas Samurai, it’s called "Area51", we used a Yamaha RS7000, Korg Electribe A/R/S, Yamaha DX200, Behringer Mixer & Tube Ultrafex, Tc Electronic Reverb, Alesis ModFx, Etek Exiter.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Impressive gear for a live act. Maybe you can send us some previews from those live acts. But besides Andreas did you worked with other artists also? E.g. Remixes?

Uemit Han: Yes, now I work with Christof Lausberg, he is a good friend of mine, we work on a Project its call "Weltenbummler" and of course the remix for Gabriel Ananda`s "Ihre Persönliche Glücksmelodie".

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Is this the only area of music which you’re working in? Or do you also play in a band or something?

Uemit Han: I Organize since September 2002 four times per year (spring/summer/fall/winter)  my Event "Strom An" -minimale tanzelektronik", the current location is Chism Club in Duisburgwith Acts like Dan Berkson&James What, Franklin de Costa or
Yapacc

FOEM/Christ Saddler: So you choose not a band but an event. When you choose FOEM, what did you liked about it?

Uemit Han: From music lovers for music lovers.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: And again the copywriter that stays hidden in you raised his head with another headline :-) But tell me Han, What are your musical aims?

Uemit Han: A lot of Vinyl releases, every week Dj gigs in good clubs all over the world.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: That’s a big wish. This means that you want to make producing as you job?

Uemit Han: Yes of course ;)

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Well, I'm sure you'll manage to do it and as I’ve seen, you already did a great job until now. When you've sent your last promo to a label, what was their reaction? Which label was it?

Uemit Han: It was some request, I’d send a demo with the same tracks on Cd to "Audiolove Music", "Daredo Music" &  "Meerestief", finally I gave it to Meerestief.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: What do you think about the uprising of netlabels and the conflict between them and the commercial music industry?

Uemit Han: I don’t like the commercial music Industry, everybody is free & born free.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Good point there. Now let's be a little bit mean and let me ask you this: tell us a place where you wouldn't play/mix never ever, not even dead.

Uemit Han: Bagdad :D

FOEM/Christ Saddler: No wonder why, hehe. I'm curious about what an artist does in his normal day by day life so I'll ask you some tricky questions about your personality. What's one thing you're a fan of that people might not expect?

Uemit Han: Sorry but I don't understand this question.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Ok then, let me put it this way: what have you read recently (book, play, film, etc.) that moved or surprised you?

Uemit Han: Rocky, Starwars episode 4-6, Michael Jackson `s "Moonwalk", Steven Hawkins all Material, Erdogan Ercivan "Verbotene Ägyptologie", Milton William Cooper`s "MJ 12".

FOEM/Christ Saddler: As I said it at the beginning of the interview... large view, large view :-) Now tell me, do you practice any sports? extreme sports? if not what would you like to do?

Uemit Han: I Love Mountainbiking & Jogging, I will try Skit Surfing or Paragliding.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Maybe in the near future we will make a trip, the FOEM crew and some artists, somewhere in the mountains for an extreme weekend, who knows. Now another tricky question for you, Han. how the world would look like if there were no electronic music?

Uemit Han: Wars....No hope, No future.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Personally I believe that electronic music emerged from war electronic devices. But it's just my funny point of view. if the end of electronic music will stop all the wars and hate in the whole universe, would you stop creating this kind of music?

Uemit Han: No,  I can’t live without this music, whatever will happen.

FOEM/Christ Saddler: That’s the spirit! Keep it alive there in you, and in the end tell us a pop band or singer that you prefer to listen from time to time!

Uemit Han: :D Baris Manco

FOEM/Christ Saddler: Thank you so much for this interview Han. Have good luck and much fun in your life! FOEM supports you as much as possible.
